Does anyone else have a betta who's afraid of his own shadow?
Aztec is very friendly to us, eats well, and is active, but whenever I hold up a mirror to give him some exercise and make him feel "not so alone" all he does is swim away and hide instead of "confront" the "intruder"! Am I the only one with a cowardly betta?

Am I the only one with a cowardly betta? Probably not, and I wouldn't worry about it. As long as he's not doing anything like trying to jump out, or ram himself into a tank decoration while swimming away, then it's nothing to worry about. |

of my 5 bettas, i have one, Cliph, that is such a shy little guy that i have never seen him flare, but he is healthy and active. he bubblenests, but loves it best when everyone just leaves him alone.

some bettas are like that. they prefer not to have any confrontations.
but if the intruder is real & invades your betta's territory, he will instinctively react with defence/offence.
