I'm going shopping for betta essentials this weekend and I'm curious what you all thought is a good staple food for bettas. What brands are your favs. I'll have live mosquito larvae as an occasional treat in the summer, I just need a good staple.

I use HBH betta bites and they have always worked great for me. Some people prefer Hikari Bio-gold Betta pellets, but the are very similar. I also feed freeze dried daphnia, and bloodworms both of which my guys love. Hikari foods are very high quality.

I feed Hikari bloodworms (frozen or in gel) as my staple and then offer Hikari brine shrimp in gel and frozen San Francisco Bay Brand Mysis shrimp several times a week so that their diets are well balanced.

I've been feeding my guys Marineland Labs' betta pellets, and am going to switch over to the Hikari ones eventually (as in, when this bottle of pellets is a whole lot closer to gone -- I'm assuming they'll go stale long before the fishies finish them off!) and just picked up some freeze-dried blood worms for them. They've already had breakfast, but I gave them each a worm, and both of them sort of sniffed at it and then SLUUURP! no more worm. Yay!
Down the road I might switch them off of pellets altogether, but for the moment I've got them and the fishies do like them. I seem to be lucky enough not to have picky bettas.
