I picked up some freeze-dried blood worms (the Hikari ones) a few days ago, and after a quick sniff at them both my fishies went SLURP! "Yum! More worms, human! Those are good!"
My question -- how much should I give them? They've been getting two pellets twice a day, but I'm not sure on the worms. Yesterday they got two worms each, breakfast and dinner. It didn't really seem like enough, though I know what is enough for a betta never seems like enough anyway. I haven't figured out a routine on the worms yet, as to when I'll give them one or the other.
And if I got them something else -- brine shrimp, say -- could I alternate those and take them off the pellets except as an occasional treat? Any advice? I'd started with pellets because I didn't know better and then I was getting settled with my fishies, but I'm ready to expand their little diets now.

RachelS...you really did something nice for your bettas' and their health. I feed live white worms and grindals half the time. The rest of the time, I feed Hikari Frozen bloodworms, mysis shrimp, brine shrimp and daphnia. Of the four frozen bloodworms are the staple.
For adult bettas I feed around 4-5 bloodworms each meal. With fry I dice the bw's with a razor blade. I have three 4 month old juvies that I kept from my last spawn. I continue to cut the bw's for them since the females are still small but use a kitchen knife.
I've been feeding Hikari Bio-Pure frozen food for a year. It is simply the best frozen food that I have tried. I've been outspoken on Hikari before and I'm glad that some of our members are beginning to use it. In the past I fed SF brand bloodworms. If you just do a visual comparison, SF Brand bw's are dark maroon in color. Hikari BW's are red and look much more appetizing. I appreciate the steps they take to eliminate parasites as well.
Yum, Yum!

I'll try four and see what happens, then. I've heard a lot of good stuff about the Hikari products. It's amazing how fast the fish slurp the worms down...
