We got our first betta Sept 3rd. the poor thing was living in a lily vase type setup. (Got it at a wedding) Since then Kuriboh (the betta) hasn't eaten. I got flake food, pellet food and even shrimp. All have gone untouched. We are getting a tank soon but right now the poor baby is in a 6 oz cup. I'm sure it's probably depressed and will be happier when we get the tank but I'm still worried. Any thoughts?

Sometimes bettas will not eat for a bit when you bring them home especially if they have been through a period of stress. A 6oz container is just not large enough for him and this could be further adding stress. I would at least find a larger bowl or something that you can keep him in, but make sure whatever you use has a cover with air holes as bettas can jump right out of their container (and tend to if they're not thrilled with it). Another thing to keep in mind is that a betta always needs to be kept warm - 78-80*F. Try to put him in a warm area. I'm sure your little guy has been through a lot up until this point and making sure that he is warm enough will help to ward off illnesses. I would do a check of his body and see if you notice any symptoms of illness just in case - frayed fins, white spots, etc. To get a betta to eat when they're not eating though, I would stick with only one type of food at first. If you keep feeding it and they realize that is the only option, eventually they will eat it. Once you have them eating that food, then you can try to add the others to the combo. Variety is great for a betta, but try to at least get him eating first. Since you mentioned that you're new to the betta world, you may want to read the basic care articles on the HB Website. www.healthybetta.com
