ok.... so where i live they sell bettas like crazy... and not with a plant or ANYTHING :S just in a plain bowl with like brown water :S so when i first got mine the guy said he will it plain flakes... so the 1st day i gave him some he just spat out... then he would eat sertain flakes but only ONE flake a day then he got constapated.... ok.... then i treated that with the pea magic... of coarse thats when i read about that they have their own kinds of foods.. i cant find them any where here.. not even the frozen stuff... so i thought about normal tiger shrimp steamed and i froze some... HE LOVES IT! but im not sure is it good for him ? i give him the occasional pea cuz he loves that too.... what else can i feed him? and when i say there r no places here that sell that stuff.. i mean NON! people here just dont care about animals much... thats too bad i know... so... any ideas any1? i apreciate ur help A LOT! i have a million threads around this site thank u every1 ;D

Also, your pet shop may have freezed dried bloodworms, red grubs, or brine shrimp but I know what it is like. Often our pet store has a rotten selection of fish supplies.

i know so many people that get told bettas will eat flakes and its SO not true.
Have you checked walmart? Even mine (in the middle of nowhere) sells Hikari Betta Bio-Gold and Wardly Betta Bites.

well if there was a walmart here i would get some but as i forgot to mention ;D i live in lebanon and there arent that many pet places like i said... and i was woundering if there were other ways to make fresh food for my betta?... i red the beef heart thingy but it sounds a bit difficult since i have to make sure there is no fat 100000%! and ordering online is a bit hard as well... there arent that many good companies that will send anything to lebanon! as i said im giving him tiger shrimp and the occasional pear... i tried crab today and he seems to love that too.... i guess to him anything is better than flakes .... but i thank every1 for the help

Is there any local department store like Walmart near where you live? Usually the small department stores will have a pet section and sell some different foods (no fd or frozen but at least you can get pellets).

Well I personnally don't like getting away from foods that we know are good for bettas it doesn't sound you have much option.
The shrimp, crab and pea combo certainly sounds a lot better then flakes so I would try him on that for a while unless he starts developing problems. Maybe you can also find something else to add to his meal plan so he gets more variety (I wish I could suggest something but I don't really know a whole lot about what's easy to find in Lebanon and I don't have time to do any research until next week) .
Good luck with your guy!

lool see what im in there are many stores that sell fish food but their all the basic foods... u know like gold fish flakes and tropical flakes... i guess the only thing i ever saw that looked like pellets where cichlid pellets and the ones u feed ground dwelling fish... i read some where that its fine to give bettas cichlid pellets but theire huge! :S one is enough for a week ! lol well he seems to be doing fine on the shrimp.. he loves it a lot! the minute he seas a little peice in my hand he would start to swim up n down like crazy trying to jump out at my hand! loool it makes me sad when i see that! ;D... hes growing like crazy and makes bubble nests all the time... even when i change his water every 2-3 days he still gows back and builds another nest.... umm.... what else.... i guess the pea helps out with constapation every time i giv him one.... oh but i read in one of the sites Rachel gave me and it said that peas have no nutritional value to bettas! .... does any1 know of any other vege that a betta would it? i thought of letuce? i guess my situation is kinda sad i know and i did talk to the store i bought him from that bettas need special food and i even gave them a whole 7 pages of betta care i gatherd from many sites.... so i hope soon they will get the point that their poor fish are depressed to death... and i reeeealy thank every1 here for their help! iv been realy helped a lot! thank u!!!!!!!! ;D

Try to get the Hikari Cichlid Gold-Baby Size 1/16" pellets (it's really Betta Bio-Gold) Anyone feeding Bio-Gold should get these instead. They're exactly the same and you get much more. This is a well-known betta breeder feeding trick. www.siamsbestbettas.com/care.html======================================== I like your idea of feeding shrimp and crab to your bettas. Variety is the key, if you can get the Baby Cichlid pellets and maybe some fd bloodworms you'll be set.
