I just got a new betta. I've been trying to feed him BettaMin because that's what I feed my other betta and he eats it up like there's no tomorrow! This one gets it in his mouth, holds it there for a second, then spits it out. I also tried to give him freeze dried brine shrimp, but it was the same thing. He got it, acted as if he were chewing it or something, and then spat it out in smaller pieces. I'm afraid he's going to starve, but I don't know what else to try. I don't want to keep wasting money on food that he won't eat. I don't think he's sick because he doesn't show any signs whatsoever of sickness, I think he's just picky. He must be REALLY picky, because I've never heard of a betta turning down freeze dried brine shrimp! Does anyone have any suggestions?

how long have you had him? Sometimes they just won't eat for a long time when they go to a new home. I wouldn't give up on anything yet. Plus, they can go for a LOOOOOOOOOONG time without food.

Yes, like twoluvcats mentioned it's not uncommon for some fish to not eat for a little while after you first get them. If you look through some of the past threads in this section I think you'll find a lot of similar posts and suggestions. Keep offering food and after a while the fish should give into it. Be sure to remove any uneaten food after a few minutes so it doesn't dirty the tank. You may have better luck with something other than the Bettamin flakes though. Pellets may be a better choice, although there are many food options of what you can feed your betta and variety in their diet is best.

I've only had him for 5 days so maybe he is just getting used to his new environment. Thanks for the feedback, I'll keep tryin!

I've been trying to feed him every day, sometimes twice a day, but still no luck. With the freeze dried brine shrimp, it's like he wants to eat it but he just can't get it chewed into small enough pieces, and I give him the smallest ones I can dig out! He gets it, chews, spits out smaller pieces, catches one of the smaller pieces as it falls, chews, spits out, gives up when it hits the bottom. I'm really starting to get worried because I've had him over a week now and he hasn't eaten once since I've had him. I don't think he ate for a while before I got him either because there were 2 uneaten pellets in his cup when I bought him. I don't want to get him any sort of pellet food, because if he can't get down a small brine shrimp, how could he get down a pellet? I'm just at a loss. Should I still keep trying with this or get a new food? If a new one, which one have you had the most luck with?

brine shrimp may be too hard. Try soaked pellets. Bettas can live for weeks without eating. And he is getting some teeny bit of nutirients when he gets it in his mouth. It can be nerve wracking to have a non-eating guy.
