well, I have 4 jars of food so far. Wardley Betta pellets...they won't touch them but the algae eaters love em Tetra BettaMin flakes...get the 'that's so yucky' look and they won't eat Tetra TetraMin tropical Granules...They love it and Tetra freeze dried bloodworms so right now I am feeding the granules twice a day and slipping in a bloodworm meal every 4th feeding or so. Is that a good diet or do I head back to the stores for more options? Also I read somewhere about a feed that is vitamin gel packed live foods but I can't remember where I read it or what it is called so if anyone knows that...

I have yet to meet a betta that truly likes these...mine would starve to death first before they'd even acknowledge that stuff. There is a gel food... Tetra Nature's Delica Foods...its not a live food...but still very good. I use it to feed my African Dwarf frog, and the bettas get some too...its a very good food, but can quickly dirty your tank if you are not careful. I've only ever used the Bloodworms, i've never tired the water fleas or brine shrimp. Other foods I keep on hand are: Seachem's Betta Food - medium size pellet, some float, some sink...all my guys like O.S.I. Betta Food - granules with bits of bloodworm mixed in, got my newest arrival eating again TetraMin Tropical Granules - made for tetras and other tiny fish, sinks slow and is something different to a pellet Marineland Bio-Blend Betta - this stuff sinks FAST Aquarian Betta Pellets - very nice teeny pellet that all my guys love I used to have wardley pellets, but they are some of the biggest out there and my guys always had toruble chewing them...thus leading to constipation problems. They also have a very high ash content.

Thank you for the info. I am going to throw out the wardley, doesn't sound like it is too good for the bettas. as soon as i read the delica name i went D'oh that's what it was! lol TY. I will try the others you mentioned as well, I want them to be as healthy and happy as possible and a varied diet seems to be the consencesus. Should it be a diferent food every day or just 3 or so foods given?
hmmm...do i ask enough questions?? lol ;D

Should it be a diferent food every day or just 3 or so foods given? hmmm...do i ask enough questions?? lol ;D I feed Hikari Frozen Bloodworms, Mysis Shrimp and Daphnia several times a week. Petco carries the Hikari Frozen line. I also feed San Francisco Brand Frozen Glassworms. SF brand of frozen food seems more readily availble, at least in my area. Frozen food is very close to feeding live, nutrition wise. Gel is good but spoils more readily. I feed my bettas live food 1/2 the time, the other half they are fed frozen food. As Luvkitties mentioned Aquarian Betta Pellets are very small and good to feed. Wardley is too large and causes reported problems. I know that you want to do the best for your bettas. Remember they are carnivores that can eat some veggie matter. For vegetable matter (digestion) I feed spirulina flakes once a week. Feed the fd bloodworms. The other pellets/flakes, I'd toss them.

I feed 1 food for a week at a time, then switch...interspersing treats. Or if i have a sick guy, i feed his 'favorite' food during medication.
I'm an overfeeder...its the Wisconsin-FOOD FIXES EVERYTHING genes in me...so I only feed my guys once a day in the AM, and then they get sparse treats occasionaly in the afternoon. This works for me to keep occurences of constipation down.

I use it to feed my African Dwarf frog, and the bettas get some too...its a very good food, but can quickly dirty your tank if you are not careful. I've only ever used the Bloodworms, i've never tired the water fleas or brine shrimp. Of Nature’s Delica I also tend to use the bloodworms quite a bit. The daphnia and brine shrimp are always a big hit with my fish, although I do not feed them on a regular basis. As starlight mentioned this food can be somewhat of a waste when you only have a few bettas and no other fish to eat the rest since it only stays fresh for a short while. I was originally told that an open packet would stay good for three to four days in the fridge, so that is what I have always followed. An easy way to feed it to bettas to not make the tank as messy is to squeeze some out of the packet and give it to them on the end of a flat toothpick. It is a step up from pellets and as you'll hear a lot, variety of different foods is the best bet for a healthy fish, but you'll also want to consider quality and nutrition of the choices. I tend to rotate through a different food at every meal for my fish and have never had any constipation problems. For vegetable matter (digestion) I feed spirulina flakes once a week. I do this every now and then as well, although I’ve found my bettas aren’t very pleased with it. Sometimes I have to mix it in with a little gel food to get them to eat it. I'm an overfeeder...its the Wisconsin-FOOD FIXES EVERYTHING genes in me... hehe...a cheesehead at heart. j/k Actually I think a lot of people tend to want to overfeed their pets as a nurturing instinct and since fish will often just keep eating all that is given to them it can cause a problem.

(from the most favourite to the least favourite)
1. Hikari Bio-Gold (staple) 2. Hikari Frozen Bloodworms (treat) 3. Eejika Betta Food (staple) 4. Hikari Freeze Dried Brine Shrimp (staple/treat) 5. Freeze Dried Bloodworms (treat) next on my list would be live mosquito larvae but its difficult to obtain. my betta would definitely love dat.
