Hello all, about a week ago I posted a topic asking how to feed a community tank.... you all gave me ideas such as keeping the betta in a cup in the tank while I feed the rest.. but here is an easier way that I use now every day... First, feed your betta with the food that he usually gets .. for me it's freeze dried bloodworms... Next, get some flake food that your betta is not used to (bettas are picky!) and crush them up. Finally, put your external filter on low, and put the food into the flow of the filter (the waterfall not IN the actual filter). The food will flow through the water and your community fish will be happy I've had to syphon my tank a lot after doing this, but its much easier than taking the top off and catching your betta in order to feed the others...

and probably a lot less stressful for the betta! that is a really good idea Just a question...do you feed your betta only bloodworms? I thought that was supposed to be just a treat, but don't quote me i could be mistaken...still fairly new at this myself

Yes I feed my betta daily freeze dried bloodworms. I tried a lot of other things but I think whoever took care of him before me only fed him freeze dried bloodworms. I occasionally feed him a cooked Pea just incase

Be careful that you remove any uneaten food immediately after the feeding. If you have a snail or shrimp crew this isn't as much of a problem, but any uneaten food will adversely affect the water quality and will provide food for disease causing organisms in the tank. Most bettas come to the top when they know it's feeding time anyway, so it shouldn't be too hard to separate him out.
