I got a Siamese Fighting Betta Fish from Petco yesterday. The fish seems ok but he won't eat the Wardley Betta Pellet food that i bought for him. What's a matter with him?Is he sick?He just looks at the food but won't eat it......

i'm not an expert but i know when you get a new betta sometimes they won't eat for a couple of days, until they get used to their new home. also i've not had a betta that would eat the pellets, do you have any other type of food you could try him with?

Yeah sometimes they don't eat right away, combined with the fact that bettas can be really picky eaters. I pretty much guarentee that you if you dropped frozen bloodworms in the water he would start eating.

I agree that he just may not want to eat for a few days but I also have tried the Wardley pellets and some of them are too large for my bettas to eat, so I have to cut the pellets in half sometimes to get my boys to eat them.

i recently disocvered that sometimes reluctant eaters are reluctant to take food from the surface...Marineland's betta food sinks fast, and that got one of my reluctant eaters eating again...he was perfectly willing to chase a pellet to the bottom, but was too shy to come to the top to get one.
one thing you will learn quickly here at HealthyBetta...the petstore people are often the WORST source of information about bettas. Wardly betta pellets are large, have a higher ash content, and have been the 'most turned down' food I've ever offered my bettas...unlike cats and dogs, bettas appreciate a variety in thier diet, and will often turn down low quality food.
