My boys and thier nests. It looks like bubbles on the top of the water. Some can be really flat and others are like piles of bubbles.

I have an air pump in my tank that produces bubbles(on the surface) because it is under the surface of the water. should the air pump in or above the water surface, or are these bubble nests? also the bubbles cover almost half of the top surface, that is to big to be bubble nests, isn't? please help. thanks

Well, bettas like still water to build thier nests. I don't have an air pump going in my betta's tank.
Bubble nests can be any size. My boys sometimes have small nests or ones that cover half the top of the tank.
One thing you can do to see if it's him or the air pump - scoop out the bubbles with a net and turn off the air pump for a night. If there's bubbles in the morning then he made them. He should be just fine without the air pump for the night. (But if you have other fish in the tank that need the air pump you might not want to do this. Bettas can breathe air directly from the surface, other fish cannot.)
