Post your pet shop stories here! My Encounter with Ole Rosie (Her Name) ;D I walked glumly inside the pet shop. My cash shined with pride. The cash would not be used to buy a fish, because it wasn't even enough to buy one! Nevertheless, I strolled on down to my favorite section; the Betta Shelf. Boy, this pet store almost always has a new shipment! I checked the pirces out. 7.50 for a plakat. 4.50 for a nice, pregnant girl. 1.50 for raggedy, ugly not colorful young girls. 12.50 for crowntail pairs. I drooled. It wasn't because I was broke, I had much more money at home, it was because I thought I wasn't going to buy any fish and I was just going to look, so I just brought 2.00 dollars! So I decided to look at some other fish when this betta bag fell. I picked it up and placed it on the shelf. Holy Betta!!!! I saved an Angel! She "smiled" ;D at me and showed her crowntail fins off, and her eyes pleaded for me to buy her. My eyes zipped to the price. 4.50. I almost screamed. I ran to where I couldn't see the bettas and thought, 'buy or not buy...." Suddenly, I rose up and walked over to the betta shelf. My hands got sweaty and the money frowned. I walked over to my mom to ask if I could borrow a few dollars, and she reluctantly agreed. "Not another betta!" she yowled. Hey, I only have 4 bettas! People at HB have like, 6 bettas or 8 or more! She gave me the money and I grabbed the betta. She was a beautiful red tailed white bodied crowntail female. She smiled at me, saying, "You made the right choice." I knew this betta would be one of the best. Ole Rosie, bought 6/26/05 If you want to see what her picture looks like I'll tell you on my next post. Nice story or what?

type this in your URL box and look for the white bodied red tailed betta (a girl.)
Mine isn't regular it is a crowntail and is prettier than the one featured at bettatalk.
Thanks Faith of Bettatalk for your pictures!

With me I can sometimes resist the urge to buy another betta baby. When I first got back into bettas after about 6 yr down time, was when my got hurt n she needed me to come down and help her out with the house n my son. She was working at a ps at the time and once she was able to go back to work I was driving her back n forth. The first thing I did everytime I got to her job was go look at the fish. Mainly the bettas. After a couple of days I started pricing stuff trying to figure what I could get that I needed for one but would be able to pack up and take back home easily too. When it was getting close to being time to go home she told me to start deciding which betta i wanted n she would get for me as appreciatin for all my help in her down time. Well it didn't take to long to pick one out. He was a blue n red that kinda looked purple if the light was right. She got him and everything I needed for him. Then right before I left I talked to my hubby about getting a betta for my daughter for her b-day. He agreed only cuz he knew that fish were something she liked alot, so she would be interested in its care. I pick another blue n red for her(only cuz the others didn't seem to stand out as much) U could easily tell mine from hers cuz of the color of them were opposite. She just loved it. Then a month after coming home I had to make a trip to a pet store an hour away for some fish supplies that my local walmart didn't sale. Well, thats the one time I was unable to resist. I went in there n started looking. There they were, beautifel bettas everywhere. I saw one that was solid red w/ long fins, longer the the ones we had at home. I just had to get em, it was like he was talking to me saying buy me plzzz. I figure one more wouldn't hurt. Then a walked done another asle to finish getting my stuff an there the other heart breaker was. He had a white body an his fins were pastel pink, blue, w/ a hint of green. Well, I had always read to be careful when u get a light color betta cuz that it might be sick r something like that. So I checked him out . And when everything checked out to my satifaction I bought him too. Instead of spending $10 I ended up spending $25 (thats including extra houses for my babies). I gottem home and settled n then hubby called when I told him what I did he got upset but when he saw them he wasn't so upset anymore. So I was up to 4: Cacoran(Cori, blue/red), Henna(my daughter's,red/blue),Aragron(the red one), & Legalos(white/w pastel fins) That was it cuz we ran out of room. Then as winter got closer I started loosing my babies. Cori died from the cat who got in the house n noone know about it.Legalos jumped back into his home before I had it completely filled n I think he got a concusion. He was fine at first then that night he was gone. Henna and Aragron died a few days apart most likely from lack of heat when our heater went out. I didn't have a heated tank to put them in cuz the only other one we had at the time the poor babies wouldve been big fish food. The lamp worked till it just got to cold. Now I have gotten my daughter another betta. She named him Argus, he is blue w/ red fins that look purple at the base and turn red as they get longer. Once my 10 gallon is set up he will go in there. SS post so long. But I can say now when I get the betta bite I make sure everything at the house is ready before I get one.

I'm very good at being able to look at bettas and avoid buying them. I'll only buy if it's a color combination or tail type that I really like. For instance, my new Cambo girl and pineapple boy. I don't anticipate any new betta purchases soon, except for a (hopeful) shipment of 2 or 3 girls from a breeder friend of mine. They're supposed to be oranges, yellows, or turquoises.

Hi, this is my 1st post. I just purchased rwo betas, this is my 1st betta purchse. There's somethuing compelling about them, they are sooo beautiful, it's almost impossible to resist! Anyway, I now have, as I've said, two bettas. One looks very much like the red one in this pic from betta talk, except his top fin, while very full, looks odd to me. It's like it has two fins, one right behind the other, but attached, if that makes any sense at all. he's quite gorgeous, his body is lighter than his fins, almost a dark fuschia, and his fins are a bit darker, almost blood red. h yes, his name is Fire. My other one's body is mostly blue, but has a reddish streak on his back. His fins are all blue, but tipped whjite all around. His fins aren't quite as impressive, but still very full and beautiful. his name is Ice.I have a feeling I'm going to be one of those people who MUST buy one each time they see a new color opr a particularly spectacular flaring male! www.bettatalk.com/images/how_be19.gif

The other week a bright blue betta caught my eye... literally. I had a spare tank. I JUST GOTTA HAVE HIM! Just one problem... my parents said no more bettas... So I went home, begged my butt off. "Only if you clean your room." So, I cleaned up about 60% of my room and the next day left bright and early to the mall to purchase the little fellow in 100 degree weather. I got to the mall, and he was GONE. Aw. They only had five bettas left. One was half crowntail, one was a veiltail, and three were "rare" expensive bettas. Two were double tails... one was missing most of his tail. A halfmoon tail maybe? So... I took the guy home who had lost most of his tail. I got him for half price, which was $7.99 CDN, which is the same price as the veiltails. He's doing great, and his tail is starting to come in. I'm just wondering what his tail is going to look like when it comes in. The lady at the LPS said he came in like that. And that's the story of the one time I could not resist getting another betta.

about three weeks ago i went to walmart to look around. i went to the fish area and found the bettas and saw a really handsome male and called my parents to see if i could him. when i got home my parents said i had to find information about them(thats how i found HB) and i had to have room for him. i did both and the next day i went to walmart with nothing and came home with my first bettea and his supplies.
