As suggested to you before in previous posts of this topic, you're probably not going to find much help with the breeding of bettas here at HB mainly because most of our members don't currently do it. Advanced Bettas is a place that specializes more in the breeding of bettas if you have questions about genetics or outcomes.

Bettamaster, as mentioned Advanced Bettas is a very good site to learn about breeding bettas. Several top US breeders maintain web sites that have whole sections devoted to breeding bettas.
I read that you recently bred guppies. Here's the most important thing for you to understand about breeding bettas. Before you even think of putting bettas in a spawning tank, they must be conditioned properly. This means they have been fed live and frozen food and brought up to the highest level of condition possible. Fish fed on processed food or pellets might look strong enough to breed but are not. Invariably they get sick in the spawning tank and usually die shortly after from the stress. A breeding male must be in strong enough condition to build an impressive bubble nest to interest the female. He's got to be ready chase a female for up to several days and be cool enough not to kill her. Then he has to tend to the fry and maintain his nest. The male guards the nest from real and imaginary threats. Most pro-breeders don't recommend feeding the male once he's in the spawning tank. This means he may have to go up to 5 days without food. The female is removed after breeding. If she wasn't conditioned properly, her egg production will be limited and she may not be ready to breed. If she isn't the male may beat her up. Females are much faster than males and for a time can avoid them. Invariably the male will get her in a position where he can do some damage. That's where conditioning comes in and why poorly conditioned bettas are not good breeding candidates.
Read everything that you possibly can about breeding bettas. Then read it all over again. To me the conditioning of the pair is the most important part.
Breeding bettas where the main objective is making money is a losing bet. You'd be better off breeding cories, cichlids or apple snails.

Oh sorry I thought this was the forum to post breeding stuff. sorry for the misunderstanding Hey starlight, I have something to tell you... Once upon a time there was a novice breeder named bettamaster. He had Salt, an aqua blue white veil tail and Frost, a white fat female with aqua blue fins. Bettamaster fed the bettas small portions of bloodworms and bbs 4-5 times a day. After a week of conditioning bettamaster prepared the tank. A bushy plant was there. A small oxygen bubbler was there. A styrofoam cup was there. A chimney glass was there. Everything essential for betta breeding was there!!!! I left Frost and Salt in the tank for a day and then I released Frost. Days later I checvked the bubblenest out and it was full of eggs!!!! I yelled yeah and woo hoo and all that other stuff... But my eggs never hatched. Salt was maintaning the eggs! Well, I'll just try again...

Not sure I understand...Salt the male was maintaining the eggs?
Was he eating them? Or he watched them but they never hatched?

He was maintaning them and ate the rotten eggs. It was probably because he was too gentle with Frost that his embrace didn't really fertilize the eggs.

Hey starlight or rachel, do you know any other betta forum that talks about breeding? That would help a lot! (Advanced Bettas wants me to have a .NET Passport and I want an easier way to join a forum like this one ;-))

There are only two forums that I know of that give you access to top betta breeders (show & breed to IBC standards) Advanced Bettas is a public forum. Genetics questions are welcomed there; you can usually get several different points of view to most questions.
It only takes a few minutes to get a net passport. I've learned quite a bit on AB in my 4-5 years there. For the most part, the focus is breeding and conditioning.
The IBC has an excellent Forum but you have to be an IBC member to have access.
