Okay so, I can usually tell what type of finnage a male has, but how do you tell on females? I know that crowntail females are supposed to have the rays too, but they all just look the same to me. Maybe I'm not looking close enough. I have four females, and only two have similiar tails. I have no clue what they are. Hm.

shanna CT females aren't as easy to identify as the males from HM. Examine all the fins very closely, not just the caudal. Use a magnifying glass if necessary. Look for little spike-like extensions at the end of the rays. This may show on any of the non-paired fins. (dorsal, anal, caudal) With some practice they are fairly easy to spot. =========================================== here's a nice one in red/white & blue. When I searched for ctf, I kept coming up with stunning fish. The ct rays will be much shorter but should be there if she's a crownie.

Thanks! I don't think they're CT's though.

That pic is of an omg female. You won't see that perfect webbing and branching. On pet shop fish or local bred bettas just look for little spikes at the tips of the rays. A friend gave me a small blue female. You had to look close to see that she was a ct. The extensions can be very small. Some hm's have ct in them.

Ohh, okay, I'll look! And how do you tell if they're HM's or those other fin types?
