I came home from doing errands today and discovered Cliph had lost his dorsal fin He does not have fin rot, there is no red or brown on his fin (whats left of it anyway) The only thing I can figure is he ripped it off. There is no way he bite it off, it is too close to his body and he can't reach all of it. I have looked in his castle and in his rocks to see if i could find what caused this and I have no clue! I can't find the fin either. I really hope it will grow back, but he is still beautiful. Just thought I would share this horribly weird event with you all

Oh no, the poor guy. Did you notice anything strange with his fin before this happened? Keep us updated on how he's doing.

You might want to remove the castle/rocks and do the pantyhose test. The rest of his fins look fine...I doubt it's bacterial. He snagged it on something. It always disappears lol. It should grow back nicely, maybe a bit smaller (my experience with HM anal fin loss).

I did the test before i gave him the stuff...and if want to see a stressed fish going nuts, you come take his rocks from him! lol I took it out to check if the fin was stuck in it or if I saw any thing that might have snagged him and he chased the formation til it was out of the water then went to where it had been and just swam in a tight circle waiting for it to come back! When i put it back in, he raced around the tank in excitment twice then checkedout every nook and cranny to make sure it was still the same and laid on the top for about 5 minutes like he was hugging it or something. I am not taking that thing out again...Cliph might have a stroke!!

Does your betta have any other kind of fish in it or a african dwarf frog? If not he may have ripped it on the castle. Something similar happened to my betta. He has a cave/tunnel in his tank and he ripped a chunk of his back fin on it. But unlike yours he didn't act any differently when I took it out. And his fin just grew back about .5 of a cm.

have you checked every where in his tank? make you check EVERYWHERE, so you can remove it if possible.
