Hi, I'm new here. I have a male Betta in an established 10 gallon tank, with heat and filtration. He has decorations, and silk plants, but no companions. What is a good companion for a Betta? I only want perhaps one other fish. I thought about a ghost shrimp, but then heard that they have been known to chew on the Betta. Any advice is appreciated. Timmie2

Hey welcome to the forums How long has your betta been in the tank alone for? Most of the time when a betta is in the tank alone for along period of time then when a "friend" is introduced the betta thinks he is invading his space and is not too friendly towards him. I myself have had luck with female swordtales, snails, some guppies. No neon tetras because they usually nibble on the bettas fins. Here are some more fish that are compatible: Click HereBut remember it mostly depends on your betta, they all have their own attitudes

I thought about a ghost shrimp, but then heard that they have been known to chew on the Betta. actually, this is the other way around...some bettas will eat or harass shrimp to death.

It totally depends on your betta. I had tried ghost shrimp with Percy and he ate it right away, so we tried 2 little snails...he bashed those against the glass and sucked them clean in less than 24 hours, and finally we put in Gary(a larger snail too heavy for Percy to lift )...Gary was harrassed and bothered and spent the whole time inside his shell hiding. we moved Gary to the guppy tank and he is now active and growing like crazy...and there will be no more attempts at a friend for Percy

Has anyone had any luck with Corydoras Panda with their Betta? I was thinking of setting up a 10 Gallon tank, to put some Corys, and my betta into. Any suggestions would be welcome! - Jeromee

Well, I put 2 albino cories in with Timmie and he doesn't seem bothered by them. He had only been in the 10 gallon for a couple of weeks, up from a 2 gallon. The fish all seem happy, the 2 cories just wander around together. My betta does try to taste their algae wafers when I feed them. I didn't know bettas would eat algae wafers. But, my betta doesn't like shrimp. I guess he's just odd. Timmie2

Same here with the wafers, he goes and grabs it and actually swims it over to his cave every time, but eventually the snail will find it. They will eat anything lol.

I was wondering if anybody has tried putting rummy nose tetra with a betta. I have a 33 gal tank, which I have just had my betta in for the last week. I have a 10 gal tank with some rummy nose tetra in it, and I just think that they are so cute, and that having some in the new tank would be nice as well.
