I was thinking of buying a male Betta and I'm not very educated about them, I was wondering if somebody could tell me everything I need to know about Betta's(feeding, tank, care, etc.) And the best place to by an orange or yellow Betta. Also, I was thinking about this tank kit, I was just wondering if anybody knew if this was a good tank or not? -------------------- edit by Rachel: fixed link

If you go to the homepage of this website, there are different links that have to do with care and other info. I would recommend that you check those out. I am sure that they will be helpful to you. I could not get to the link that you created regarding the tank kit. It could just be my computer. Also, I own a yellow male betta, and I bought him at my local pet store. Maybe check out a reputable local pet store and see if they have one or can get one for you.

Also, I was thinking about this tank kit, I was just wondering if anybody knew if this was a good tank or not? Unfortunately this product is marketed as a good home for bettas, when it actually is not suited for them at all. For one, it is a bit on the small side as they need a tank that is at least 1 gallon or larger. You'll also want to make sure your tank has a cover of some sort as bettas are jumpers! Also, there is no way to really keep the tank a nice warm, stable temperature as bettas should be kept around 78-80 degrees F. While the setup does come with food, water conditioner and rocks, I think if you shop around a bit more you'll still be able to find a great deal for the accessories.

I'm glad to hear that he is happy Just one thing, do you have any kind of light for the plant? I havent had that much experience with live plants but I think you need a light on it.

yes, bettas will sleep...they will find a comfortable spot in their tank and doze. It can be scary waking them up...they will often be very pale and sluggish, they can look really sick...but once woken up they'll color right back up and look for food LOL

Ralph Jr usually sleeps on top/in my silk plants. They are kind of a cup shape, and when I first saw him do it I thought he was very sick. Make sure you put the tank where it is quiet for at least a good portion of the night.

Now I am curious about this. When you buy a Betta from a box store / pet shop (the ones around here) they are sold in a small cup with lid.
How do they maintain these fish? Not to sound morbid, but how long do they survive living this lifestyle if nobody buys them?
Also, if you buy a Betta online and it is shipped, how is it shipped?

Now I am curious about this. When you buy a Betta from a box store / pet shop (the ones around here) they are sold in a small cup with lid. How do they maintain these fish? Not to sound morbid, but how long do they survive living this lifestyle if nobody buys them? I know that my local Walmart will just leave them in the cups with no daily water changes. So if nobody buys them within a couple of days, then they will die. It is quite sad to see. The people who are in charge of the pet department at the local Walmart here are the lawn and garden people, who don't have a clue about anything (including plants). I have made suggestions to several people in that department that they at least need to change the water daily, but it doesn't do any good. That is why I buy my fish at my local pet store where the bettas are kept in tanks, and the owners have a clue about what they are doing. The only way to get these stores to change their ways is to hit them in the pocket book, by not buying fish from them. I have never bought fish online before, so I can't answer your second question.
