Hi, First I want to say I did a search, but could not find the answer. So if this has been covered, please point me to the thread.
How do you tell how old your Betta is? When you buy it from a Wal-Mart or Petco, there is no way of knowing.

you pretty much don't know for sure. Petco and other big-box store bettas are anywhere between 6mo and a year when you get them, but beyond that, you just have to guess.

It's pretty much impossible to tell. Young fish will be smaller than mature bettas and their fins will be smaller and they won't be as colorful. If you buy a mature Betta however, there is no way to tell how old they are. That is why most people prefer to buy Bettas right from the breeders so that they get a complete history and age of the fish.

Thanks. I look forward to posting here. There really is nowhere to get decent info. I have found out that people who work at large pet stores or in pet departments are not always knowlegeable about what they are selling. I even bought a Betta book, that looks as if it was written in general for all fish and they just changed the words to Betta & used some Betta pix. I say this because they talk about salt water tanks. How does that pertain to Bettas???
