I used a plastic sundae spoon (long handle) to pick up uneaten or spit out food and it was white in color. My Betta had no issues with it, if it was in the tank and if I had a piece of food on it he would take it. Kind of cool.
I threw the spoon away by mistake and used a black plastic spoon. As I went to retreive a spit out worm, my Betta attacked the spoon, flaring, jumping out of the water, banging the spoon and nipping it. It was like a micro-shark attack!
I am wondering if the black spoon looked like another Betta or fish and he was defending his turf.
I will not use it again!

I have no idea what caused the color preference, but it never fails to amaze me how individual and interesting our little betta buddies can be! And unless he hurt himself, I don't think you have to worry about the attacking...it was just a good workout for him

i was feeding flame a pea last night on a flat toothpick because i think he has constipation, well anyways he looked forward to the pea being handed to him on the toothpick so much that he once hung onto the toothpick and i almost fished him out of the water! it so funny!
p.s. flame seems to be doing better this morning! woohoo!!!
