I've had Poop for about 6 months now in a small 1 gallon tank (I'm a bad owner, I know.. I'm waiting for my dad's fish to die so I can have his 5 gal tank).
Before I knew about HB, I would only change his water maybe once a week (if even) and he didn't have a heater, so the temp was a constant 70 degrees. The thing is, he would always blow bubbles every night and I would wake up to see a ring of bubbles every morning.
Now, I change his water 2 - 3 times a week and bought him a heater and the temp is always around 80 degrees, but he doesn't blow a single bubble at night anymore =|
What happened? Does he not like his heated clean water? He seems happy....

Usually bubblenests are signs of good health, but not all the time. Take my fish spaz for example, he was bubblenesting like crazy when I first got him, but I think he grew out of it. It's completely normal if your betta doesn't do it anymore Some More Info: www.healthybetta.com/articles/New%20To%20Bettas/bubblenest.html

My theory on this is that male bettas are only in their prime for mating when they are younger. Some bettas are never inclined to blow bubblenests, much to the annoyance of their owners in the event that they try to bread these lazy boys, LOL.
Some bettas stop blowing bubblenests (I had a betta like that too) once they get past their prime, so to speak. Remember that the lifespan for a betta is only about 2-3 years. I think that they figure out more 'important' things to do with their time once they get a little older, LOL.
Anyway, just my opinion on the subject. If your betta seems happy and isn't showing signs of illness, don't get too concerned.

its wierd, but one of my 2 year old bettas have been blowing bubbles his whole life. I also have a 6-8 month old, and he just made his first one yesterday ;D hes cute! The other 2 year old just made his first one in about a year yesterday, after i changed his tank (and now its heated and larger than the last one, which i upgraded a couple of weeks ago.) They're puzzling... It might be any # of factors, but i think it just depends on the betta.

i agree. i think bubblenesting habits depend how your bettas personality and ways of entertainment or usage of time.

I've had Martin since the beginning of February, so he's about 1 year old now, and he did not make a bubble nest for months and months. I noticed he just made one about 2-3 days ago. Since I've cleaned his tank on Wednesday he hasn't rebuilt it. He was never real big on making them but I was happy to see one after going so very long without him making one.
Maybe yours is just going through a slump (for lack of a better word, lol)?
