how can you tell if Crowntails have tail rot? i don't have one, i have 3 Veiltails. It seems like unless you remember the exact arrangement of the spikes on their tails, you can't tell if a small part keeps rotting away. Also, if you bread a CT with a VT, or any 2 different types of betta, how would the fry's tails look? Maybe they would be one or the other, but maybe it would create a whole new betta variety. Has anyone ever done this? just curious, and thought it would be an interesting question to ask.

You may think that it would be hard, but after you have one it is easy. When a CT flares everything should line up perfectly.

With a crown tail, when it has fin/tail rot, you notice that the spikes tend to be a bit red/brown/black at the tips and you begin to see the spikes getting shorter. As far as crossing a vt with a ct, I think you end up with fry that are comb tails (half veil, half crown). HTH

Interesting. If i ever get a CT i'll keep the fin rot thing in mind. I think my next betta will be a CT, my local pet store started stocking them recently. It's so tempting to get a 4th betta...but I don't think i'd have time or energy to change his tank. I could always do the tanks 2 at a time, one pair on Saturday and one on Sunday...NO! Must...resist...new...betta!

not really true black, but very dark grey that some times reflects the red in his fins. I've seen picks of similar, but its white/clear and not grey black. He's managed to get constipated again, so will wait until he gets over that some and I'll get some pics of him in his new digs.
