Monday night I treated myself to a new betta. He's georgous: red, dark red, and light blue body and his fins have a touch of white and light purple. As soon as I introduced him to his new home, instead of hiding, flaring and hiding, or swimming spastically around the tank (like my other bettas), he watched me. It was odd that he wasn't afraid of me. Also, he ate a half hour after I introduced him into the tank. I haven't come up with a name yet... His favorite activity though is flaring at Spaz who's home is right next to his.
I'm getting a digital camera for Christmas, so some time over the holidays, I'll get pictures of my boys up here along with pictures of the rest of my fishy family.

The new guy sounds nice. Does he have a name yet? It's always fun to see how different every betta's personality is.

He doesn't have a name yet. He reminded my mom of the hummingbird off Pocohantas... Flit? Flick? Can't remember. But I'm not sure if I'm going to call him that or not.
Haha, everytime I go to the used clothing place in town, I come home with a 1 gallon fishbowl. I'm going to wait until February to decide if I'd like another betta. I've got a huge courseload next semester and drama is starting up too (that takes up an unbelievable amount of my time) so I may not be able to handle another guy.

he sounds very handsome. on your signature it says Spaz is going to a five gallon. will the new guy go in Spaz's old 2-gallon bowl?

Unfortunately, I borrowed the bowl from a friend when I was medicating him. At that point I had a one gallon plastic aquarium and a ten gallon aquarium. Someone told me the plastic might stain, so I borrowed the glass bowl. Then Don, who was in my 10 gallon, fell ill, so I had to put him back in the one gallon. He passed away two weeks ago. Then I got two more bowls... I just don't want to move Spaz back into the one gallon. I went away to camp during the summer once for five days leaving him in my family's care (did a 100% water change two days before I left and a 50% water change the day I left) and when I got back, his eyes were starting to bug out of his head. So I'm leaving him in the 2 gallon until I get the five gallon cycled.
If my friend lets me keep the 2 gallon, my new betta will go in there. I know I can put a heater in the two gallon, but I haven't had any heating issues with the one gallon bowl like I have in the past.

i got a new betta a few days ago as my last little fellow died recently. the new one is pale blue body with red head and fins. very lovely and unusual. i haven't come up with a name for him yet. i now have a two gallon tank and he looks quite tiny in there as i only had a half gallon one before. i'm so happy to have a betta again!

I didn't end up getting a female... but I ended up getting a male that was in bad shape... there will be a post on this in the Diseases and Priority section.
