HI Everyone this is my first post....I'm so glad I found this site. I've had my male "zeus' for about a week.He and my female "firefly" came home the week before christmas. I've yet to see him build a bubbe nest. He looks good and eats real well also..They live in plastic gallon size containers...More rectangular and long than tall and less wide...This gives them more swimming room..I read on another site to put 1/2 of a styroform cup in the water and the male may build the nest under this. These arent the only two I have I have three other females and two males..pics soon to come..The two newest males one is copper and the other is a white marbling. This weekend I have a project set...I'm working on two 10 gallon tanks to divide and use for them.... ;D So happy I found this site.I've spent a couple hours reading and going through the picture site....

Hi winddancer, and welcome to HB , From the subject line of your post, I assume you're concerned/confused that your male isn't making bubble nests...although you didn't actually say this in the post Some males build bubblenests...some simply do not. It doesn't mean there's anything wrong with your guy if he doesn't, although I'd give him more than a week to settle in and really begin to develop a personality. Are you planning to breed the fish? Is that why you're concerned about the lack of bubblenesting? I would strongly encourage you to continue reading through the HB website and forum - TONS of useful info for newbies here Good luck! ~abm

I am currently looking at 5 male bettas in 5 tanks....3 have humongous bubble nests , one has a few bubbles in a corner and Anakin has crystal clear water with nary a bubble in sight ;D. They're all healthy, happy and normal! But after Zeus has been with you a bit longer, he may very well change his habits. Like kids (I'm a mom , the minute you get comfortable and know what to expect, they CHANGE!!! ;D

Thank you. I guess I worry to much.. .I have two more males and three females who need naming. It's funny how a name came come to you so quickly for one.( like Zeus and Firefly)..and then take days for another.... l'll give them all time to settle in..

It took me over 2 weeks to name Moonunit ("Moonie") and yet Schuyler and Sunny were named before their tanks were prepared. It is funny how names just settle on you for certain pets If you're desperate to have something to call them, try googling 'baby names' and see if anything there grabs you - that's where I got "Max" (RIP)

I got three all about a month ago. Apollo only did a bubble nest after he got put into the 10 gallon tank. Mr. Cellophane is in 2.5 gal and has a bubble nest almost a third the surface area of his keeper (did it after I raised the water level too). and Neptune has yet to build one, but he's been in a .5 and .75 gal containers until his 2 gallon minibow is not serving as a hospital tank.

My new white betta has a bubble nest ;D...still nothing from zeus or the copper boy....Now to think of a name for the white and copper males.... I was leaning towards "Troy" for the copper one. and still nothing comes to mind for my white male.

Try changing some of your water and do it prior to a change in weather. A lot of times this will result in a male making a nest.
