I recently added live plants to my 10 gallon betta tank: 2 java ferns, java moss, 3 aponogeton bulbs and 2 lily bulbs (all bulbs have sprouted nicely). The tank looks great with all this foliage, and the water looks clear; however, the surface of the water seems to have a film of tiny white particles on it. In addition, one of the lily bulbs (with a massive plant attached to it) has floated upwards out of the substrate, and now the bulb has small circular patches of a fuzzy white substance. Should I be concerned about either of these? Since I can't really post a reply, I've decided to modify my initial post. I've tried skimming the surface of the water to remove the layer of particles. I've cleaned the small patches of whitish fuzz off the bulb. I've also siphoned some water out of the tank and replaced the carbon filter. In addition to the fuzzy patches, I've begun to notice translucent, slimy strings of whitish substance hanging off of some of the plant leaves. I've gently wiped this off of the plants where I've seen it and attempted to siphon out as much of it as possible, but there are still some remnants in tank. I'm hoping the filter will remove whatever's floating around in the water, but should I attempt to remove it wherever it has attached itself to a plant? My betta does not seem to be affected by any of this. He looks fine.

Do some water changes, and skim the particles off the top with a fine net or a paper towel.
If you want, try to gently clean the fuzz off of the bulbs, and then siphon it out of the tank when you do a water change.
