I'm still lookin for tankmates for my female bettas....
I've been told Cories and Danios work, but I don't really like them (the catfish-look of the Cory creeps me out..lol) So I was wondering if there were any "pretty" fish that would work with female bettas?
What about Neon Fruit Tetras? I've heard Tiger Barbs nip, so I'm assuming they're not cool tankmates. And would Angelfish get along with bettas? Please let me know!!!!! Thanks!

My experience with tetras and Bettas has not been a good one. I put 4 glow light tetras (all about 1 in. long) in a 10 gal tank with my male Betta, Flame. For about 7-10 days they seemed to get along ok. Some days Flame would chase them and some days they'd chase him. Then one day all 4 tetras ganged up on Flame and ate a large part of his tail and top fin off.
Needless to say I now have the tetras in a tank by themselves.
I too thought tetras were good tanksmates. Now I am afraid to put any kind of fish in my male Betta tanks.
I hope you get some replies on this post cause I'd like to know of good tankmates myself.
Good Luck!

I've heard that White Clouds like cooler temps, but supposedly they can adapt to warmer water. Not sure about filtration, though. I have ours set at a very low flow, which might not be enough for other fish. What is your setup? I'm having the same dilemma with our 5 gallon tank and male Betta, but my main concern is that Horatio is so happy and (hopefully) healthy right now, that I'm hesitant to do anything that might mess things up. Not only from a compatibility/stress standpoint, but also the concern of introducing any kind of disease into the tank with him. One tankmate that is supposedly a good match for Bettas is African Dwarf Frogs, but then I found a site where a couple of people said that their Betta killed the frog after a few days. Obviously he didn't like the company! Someone else suggested that you can add a frog or two, but it's best to have them in the tank FIRST and introduce the Betta second -- not the other way around. That way there's less territory dispute. Personally, I'm starting to lean toward just leaving well enough alone and let Horatio have the place to himself. It might be very different with females, though. Let me know how you make out with this! sef

How about more female bettas? If you get a few different colors and put them together, you would have a colorful and interesting tank without worrying about combatibility problems.
Female bettas do bicker on occasion and they will establish dominance, but I've had really good luck keeping them as long as there are plenty of hiding places for the submissive girls.
How many do you have now and what size is your tank?

I had a bala shark, 2 neon tetras and 2 black mollies with my female bettas. They all got along great. In fact, they all schooled together ^_^ BUT The bala sharks get big after the first year, so be prepared to have a larger tank ready. But they're peaceful, friendly fish [In fact, I had him with another bala shark, 2 neon tetras and an angelfish and they all were friends, it was cute.] Do a lot of research, though, because it all depends on the personality of the fish. <3

Thanks everyone!
bettaMVP - I have about 4 female bettas together in a 10 gallon tank. I love bettas, but I was looking for a variety. Depending upon the arrival of my new female, we'll see about new friends.
mande - I am in love with Bala sharks! What size is YOUR tank? Like I said above, mine is 10 gallons, is that too small? How big did your shark get?
Warning to everyone! Be wary of aggressive females! My one female Betty, has to have her own bowl because she tore the crap out of the two other females in the big tank with her. The few I have in their now get along fine. Just a warning, watch out for aggressive females.....
