Data Operating System....
No, DOS was my work betta.
DOS came to me in February of 2001 as a full adult male betta. He had curling tendrils and vibrant colors. He was around a year and a half old.
He came to work with me, living in a two gallon vase I had sterilized and decorated quite nicely for him. He adored it and his whale hidey hole.
Soon, though, 2 gallons was not enough for me or him - so I bought him a 4 gallon tank that now resides on the edge of my desk - empty of DOS.
Last Friday, September 19th, I brought him home because he lay listlessly on the tank bottom. I did not want him to pass and become nothing but food for COBOL the snail.
The last week - DOS has spent a comfortable stay at my house, learning he was not the only betta on the face of the Earth. He slowly got worse, I know it was his age. He swelled a bit, and last night, he peacefully passed away.
To DOS - my little work buddy - we spend almost 3 full years together. You were my little grump.... my little ole man. You beat the odds of time by living your span twice as long as average - and I am grateful to have been your owner in that time.
I'll catch ya on the flip side, DOSman......
swim safe....
Crystal

Bettas become such an important part of our lives, and I know how hard it is when they leave us. DOS had a long, happy life thanks to your love and care.
Rest in peace, DOS.
