This morning I lost my Red Baron. For over 2 years, he and Snoopy have been friends, side by side flaring at each other and greeting me with their wiggles of glee. Last week he started showing signs of illness. I watched over him, then soon did all the "mom" kind of things for him, meds, heating pad, etc. I couldn't do enough. He struggled to stay with us Easter Sunday. I really felt I would lose him on that day. However, when I woke up this morning, I went right to his bowl and he was swimming around for the first time in days, instead of laying at the surface gasping for air. I thought for a brief moment that he was getting better, but his tail fins had totally shredded overnight, and he looked very bad. I left the room and a few moments later, came back in for my morning coffee, and he was gone. It was as if he held on just to say goodbye to me this morning, then he felt he could let go. He suffered so, but I just could not euthanize him. I had to let God do it for me. I cried all the way to work - I know, "he was just a fish". I will miss you little Red Baron and your pouting face every time I tried to changed your water, and your squiggly hyper greeting. Snoopy misses you too. He has no on to "talk" to now. Judy S

I'm so sorry for your loss Judy Pets are pets, members of our family. No matter he was "just a fish," he was your companion and friend. Grieving his death is a show of respect for all that Red Baron meant to you for so long. I'm glad you got to say goodbye. I could not euthanize my Quigon either - all we can hope is that God eases their consciousness so they do not suffer inside. ::hugs:: ~ abm

I hope Snoopy is doing alright without his friend.. Red Baron lived a full and happy life, and I'm sure he appreciated all of your care. Sorry for your loss Judy.
