The new betta I got died after about a week. He seemed just fine. He was alittle shy, but he was very alert. He didn't show any obvious signs of illness untill just before he died.
I came home the night of the 6th day (of owning him) and he had some scales missing, wich was pretty strange. I gave him alittle medication (antibiotics) thinking he might have something similar to fin rot going on (the scale damage was right under his dorsal fin). The next night I came home and his dorsal fin was gone and he had severe scale damage around the area. I gave him some more antibiotics. I wasn't sure what was wrong but I figured that haveing that kind of damage was just an invitation to bacteria, so I thought I would eliminate that. The next night, I came home, and he was dead...face down in the gravel and his back end sticking straight up, fins still spread out.
I have NO clue what happened...

I am so sorry for your loss. I know how hard it is to lose a betta. I really have no information as to what happened but it seems you did everything you could have done. Lucy
