sniff... it's been about five months since I lost my first betta Phineas, and I still miss him. A beautiful red betta, he was a grad present from a friend of my mother's. I was terrified I'd kill him within a week. Instead I got hooked on bettas. Phinny always danced for me when I came to turn on his light in the morning, and always flared angrily whenever someone besides me got too close to his 1 gallon tank. I even taught him to kiss me goodnight (he only did it for a week, before he figured out that my finger wasn't food, and wouldn't bother). I really hoped I'd push the 4-5 year age limit for bettas, but instead I only had him for 367 days. He started eating less, and then one day he was thrashing around in the water. He died while I was on a desperate run to the pet store to find him something - anything - to give him. I've since the expanded to a 5.5 gallon tank, but my new betta Emmett will never take Phinny's place (setting aside the fact that Emmett's utterly psychotic!) None of the bettas I see ever seem to look as handsome as Phinny was. It's great to have a forum like this, where I tell other betta lovers about my Phinny.

I'm sorry you lost Phinny It's so hard to watch them go, especially when (it sounds like) you don't know what went wrong or how to help. He must have been beautiful - if you have any pictures we'd all love to see him. I'm glad you stuck with bettas and it sounds like you have a wonderful set-up for Emmett Thanks for sharing your grief with us.

Im very sorry for your lose. it will take time but you will start to feel better again. Never forget him as he will always be a part of you. Also be comforted in the fact that he is never far from you as you carry all the positve memories of him in your heart.
