Last night I lost Moby. I had him since March 2001, when I rescued him from Walmart while on a self pity shopping trip with my best friend after breaking up with my boyfriend. I could see that he was getting old in the last year or so. He lay around more, wedged himself in the plants and just enjoyed his "retirement". The last few days he declined, not eating much, barely swimming. I knew his time was coming. It still hurt to find him dead, and I scooped him gently out of the tank. He was only a little fish, but I don't have the heart to throw out or flush my old friend. When the ground thaws, I will take him out of the freezer and bury him. I think he deserves that. So, now I am Bettaless. I don't know it I will get another. I suppose eventually I will....

Wow, what a long and happy life Moby had with you! I'm so sorry you lost him - it's always hard to lose a friend, especially one who's lived with you for so long I hope you will consider getting another betta someday, but allow yourself time to grieve for Moby. He was a great pet and you've been a great betta mom to him

My condolences for your loss. Do you have any pictures of him? It's nice to have a memorial of sorts.
I myself was thinking of cremating my fish, seeing as I don't want whatever Luci had to get into the water and the ground is too frozen to dig in.

Sadly, I don't have any pics of him, any I tried to take never came out. He was just a nondescript blue fellow, not particularly flashy, but he had attitude! ;D I can't say I did anything special to get him to live so long. Just like when you read about someone who ate bacon for breakfast, drank Jack Daniels and smoked cigars everyday living to be 100 years old. Moby was just a tough little guy. I think I will get another at some point, just like when I lost my dog to cancer, and swore I would never get another, two months later I adopted TWO! Just takes time, I guess...Thanks for your condolances
