I had to euthanize Little Charlie today and it was the hardest and saddest thing that I have ever had to do. The move to the new tank was a little rough on him and he started slowing down after that. Well the last three days he would not eat, which was not like him and he would lay at the bottom of the tank gasping for air. However, he was not showing any outward symptoms so I did not know what to do, his water chemistry and temp were at healthy levels. Well last night he started to pine-cone and it just got worse today I am guessing that he had dropsy. Unfortunately I have never dealt with that before and my LPS is closed until Tuesday and they don't carry the proper meds for that, so when I seen him laying on his side pine-coning even worse and still gasping for air, I made the decision to euthanize him today. I used the freezing method and I cried the whole time, and I am still pretty upset. Before I did it I told him that I loved him and that I was sorry, but I could not let him suffer anymore. He was my baby and I loved him very much. I had him for almost a year and a half and he was fully grown when I bought him, so he was up there in age. Goodbye my feisty little guy your mama loved you very much. I am enclosing a link to my favorite picture of him. pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/accountingchick1/detail?.dir=/94b5&.dnm=e31e.jpg&.src=ph&.tok=ph28zEEBid6Dxq1Y

i am soooooo sorry to hear that you had to euthanize Little Charlie. at least he lived a happy, long life with a caring owner instead of a kid who just happened to look at the fish, asked his parents, they said yes he could have one even thogh the kid didn't know jack squat about fish.

He was a good looking fella, I'm sorry that you had to lose him that way. It's a good thing that he went without pain though.

Thank you for your condolences guys. It was tough this morning waking up and seeing an empty tank and not having any fish to feed. I am still a little sad, but getting better. I am hoping to adopt again very soon. I am wanting to get a female and another male since I have two tanks. I will of course post pics of the new ones when I get them.

Just think as my girlfriend thought when her gold fish died "I'm not sad anymore, he's in fish college"

I'm sorry for the loss of Charlie, Accounting chick . That must have been so difficult euthanizing Charlie but I believe you did the right thing for him as he is no longer suffering (though it doesn't make it any easier). Hugs to you.
