My sweet little Sami passed away today. He was 3 years old and a wonderful little fish. We called him Sami the Samurai because he was a strong willed, tough little guy who seemed like he could survive anything. He once went on a hunger strike for almost a month and finally started eating when we fed him live brine shrimp. He had been battling dropsy for the last 2 weeks and when I came home today I found his dried up little body on the floor next to his tank. He had never jumped out before so I can't help but think maybe the pain from his bloated belly was just too much for him to bear and he decided to commit suicide. He was very loved and many, many tears have been shed over his passing. I hope he's in a place where he feels no pain and can swim freely with his beautiful red and purple fins swaying around him. Rest in peace Sami the Samurai.

Thanks ABM. I read some of your replies to the other memorial notices and think it is so nice of you to take the time to write a few kind words during difficult times of loss.
It definitely consoles us "emotional", "highly attached to our pets" and "easily prone to crying" types... You are very sweet. I hope my next post will be more cheerful too...

If you've poked around the forum and/or read my sig, you're probably aware that I've had my share of experiences in losing pets So yes, I moderate the Memorial Board on purpose, b/c I know how important these little guys can become to us, and any loss (even if only an inch long ) can hurt A LOT. We're all glad you found us at HB

very sorry about Sami, it sounds like he was a wonderful little friend. it is so hard when they are suffering and there is nothing you can do to help. i lost my little fellow not long ago too. at least you gave him a happy life for three years. it is very sad though.

So sorry for you...but how wonderful that you could enjoy his company for so long. I am sure he enjoyed your company as much as you enjoyed his, because I am sure that they really love the interaction with people to keep themselves alert and amused. I hope you are soon feeling better and just remember all the good memories he gave you and your family.

Hi everyone - Thank you for your kind words! 3 days later I am feeling much better though I still definitely miss little Sami. He became such a big part of my daily routine... I would almost never leave home without saying good-bye to him. There's still a whole in my life where he fit... I loved him, and I know that I gave him the best care I could. I think he was a happy fish while he was alive and that thought makes me feel content. Life goes on...

Oops! I meant "hole" in my life... I hate when that happens.
