I had to have my dog Millie put to sleep this morning ...she was 18.5 years old! We sort of kind of knew this was coming (heck, with an 18-yr-old cocker spaniel, every day is borrowed time ) but it was still upsetting and shocking. Not how we planned to begin our summer vacation time. I know this is a betta board but many of us have pets of other species....and it happened so quickly/suddenly, I guess I'm still processing the whole episode. Thanks for reading. Enjoy your pets

Sorry to hear about Millie, I know how sad it is to lose a furry friend no matter what their age is.
I'm sure she's chasing butterflies in doggie heaven now.

I am so sorry for you and your families loss abm. It is tough to lose a pet, even when you know it is coming. It sounds like she led a long and happy life though.

Wow, Millie lived a long and I'm sure great life. I know just how much you will miss her. That's something I'm not looking forward to with my two kitties. They're only a little over two years old, so that's hopefully a loooooooong way off. Words can't describe the sense of loss when a beloved pet that seems to have always been there suddenly no longer is. We've always had cats and it's always been traumatic when after 15 or more years they become ill and die. It's why I didn't have a pet for many years - I didn't want to deal with that kind of pain. My last pet was a parakeet that lived to 12, surviving a kitten attack and crazy glue! (that's kind of a funny story) He developed gout and died peaceful in my hand as I stroked him. I came home one day to find him in the bottom of his cage, no longer able to hold onto his perch. I cradled him in my hand and stroked him for about two hours and then he took one last deep breath and was gone... He was the sweetest bird... sigh... I feel so bad when I hear about any animal dying. Hell, I cried when Barbaro broke his leg. I feel horrible about my Fiero that I only had for 3 days. I truly feel your pain.

We lost our last cat last Halloween at the age of 21 (or 22, we're not really sure, but she lived with us for 18 yrs)
