ok.... I had my nice little setup here with my little, red betta, named frodo. Then My mother works down at the restaurant she owns and it was getting cold down there and the betta they have named alphy was also getting cold so she brought him home and set him next to my betta. They have been fanning eachother alot and i can't tell if they are having fun or are frustrated. It looks alot like they are having a blast but i wonder if they could still get stressed because they are together all of the time even though they are having a fun. For instance my frodo would be hiding in the weeds and when alphy swims by frodo would rush towards him to suprise alphy and then they would get excited and wiggle around and then they would go to the other side of the tank opposite eachother and wait till they think it is time to go at it again. It is really cute. Also they both have been building their bubble nests like never before.... Is this territorial?

Could they get stress even though they are having so much fun?

They'll most likely get used to being near each other and settle down within a few days. If you are a bit worried, you could place a piece of paper between their tanks and only remove it when you would like them to flare at each other. If you notice that it is stressing either of them out, such as shredded fins, you may want to separate them for at least some of the time. Bubble nesting is definitely an instinctive thing they do to mark their territory. My guys build huge ones after flare fests also.

Hi, BettaGirl They probably enjoy having each other for "company!" If they're flaring constantly, place a piece of blank paper or a file folder between them to provide some "rest time." You'll find, however, that they will still swim near that side of the bowl, looking at the paper curiously like, "Hey, where did that guy go?"
