...but this seems to be the best pic I could get with this camera. There are some slightly better shots of each (including some very nice one of the blue almost all opened), but this one is nice because I could make both pose at once! The small purple-ish shade near the head of the red isn't his actual colour (but that bright part is, it's silver), but it's just some camera "hiccup". There are some other new pics (much better than the last post), maybe I'll post them later.

Wow, I love the coloring of the red one. It's almost like a dark pink/purple with white. Very pretty indeed.
(I just noticed something interesting on my betta today. When he flares and his gills pop out, on his chin he has a perfect red cicle. It's so unusual and unique. Seeing as I can't get a photo of him, I just thought I'd throw that in there, lol)

The occasional purple shades you're seeing are artifacts of the camera post-processing. He's indeed dark red though, not a single bit of iridescence except for this small stripe on his tail (seen a bit in another pic) and these small silver spots on his "cheeks". His tail now is displaying some nice light blue reflex/iridescence under strong daylight (not direct sunlight of course), It used to have a pink shade when closed but it might have some nice blue shades in a few months... That red stripe in the blue's tail isn't as red as that, it's a bit transparent with red shades, but it's mostly transparent.

I tried clicking on the thumbnails, but they don't seem to open up But by what I can see, they're real clear photos. I wish I could get a photo as good as that!

Nice clear pictures. Which guy is the thermometer hitter - the blue one with that nice large caudal fin? Have you ever thought about naming your bettas or is that not your thing?

The "thermometer killer" is the blue one (red's thermometer doesnt have a suction cup). It's now in the opposite corner of the place where they usually "meet", and I think he forgot about it... I was even going to move the thermometer back to its original place yesterday because in this place where it is now I always forget to check it more often when I turn the thermostate on and sometimes the temps are a bit higher than I wanted. I might try to do it today or probably in the next full water change with the empty tank - I think that if I mess up with the thermometer with him in the tank he will notice it again and start the banging again...
What was weird is all this banging didn't cause him any harm in the finnage, and considering its current size anything seems to be going to make it tear... it had just one incident like that, after some water change in the very beginning. The recipient where I place them while cleaning has some holes and I usually empty it almost entirely before adding them back to their tanks letting the water flow through these holes, and sometimes their fins get "stuck" in these little holes, and it took some piece (at that time) of blue's caudal fin and a bit of the ventral. He has fully recovered all these parts back quite fast, just the caudal fin has a minor imperfection (near the transparent stripe, its shape isn't as rounded as before) that hasn't fully recovered yet but as it's now full of spikes it's unnoticed. I'm still wishing and waiting for his tail to have as many spikes as the dorsal/ventrals have now so he can easily be mistaken as a crowntail... the red one is starting to grow these spikes in the ventral fin but he still has a lot to change I suppose, he seems to be at least 2 months younger than the blue.
No, I don't name them, for me it's ok to just call them "red fish" and "blue fish". Cats and dogs are much easier to be named...
