Thanks guys for all your nice comments. Apache has the nicest inter-active personality. He reminds me bit of Star in that respect. After his long trip, I took him out of the bag. He was in his new tank for 1 minute and he started to play with me. He was eating food one minute later. He's named after my first bf betta who was a steel male with similar color.
Diablo flares at anything that I do and has a nice personality too. Apache lets me remove him with my hand, Diablo won't let me do that but in a small tank, I prevail. These two are very big males. Confetti is the cutest thing. She's much smaller than Diablo but is spunky as anything. She's so cute when she flares. She's my fav female.
These came from two different Thai breeders. Apache has a sister named Apache Girl (?). The breeder included two free plakats. He was going to include two crowntail males but I needed a plakat female for my big (huge actually) plakat male named Teddy Bear. One plakat female is a blue marble (purple-blue) with slight bf characteristics. The other female is a new color...platinum. The Asian breeders are cranking out new colors every month (Copper, Bronze-Red,metallics and much more) They are breeding bettas to match the Thai as well as American flags. Too much! Apache Girl is a turquoise metallic. You look at her in one reflection and she's turq, in the other reflection she's royal blue. Absolutely amazing. The platinum isn't like an opaque. It's somewhat fleshy in color but metallic. The platinum males that I've seen are breathtaking. The platinum female arrived in a poo-filled bag. They usually don't feed them prior to shipping but since she was a last minute throw-in she was well fed. I thought that I would lose her and was afraid to medicate her since I didn't know what was wrong. I added salt and did a series of daily water changes and in a few days she was fine. She's a good sized female and is very gentle. Nice girl that's a pleasure to have.
I think the Thai breeders develop the new colors on the plakats first. Once they get the color they want on a plakat; it's easy for them to get them on long fin bettas since long fins are dominant.
I've had them for two weeks. I wanted to post about them but didn't feel up to it.
The crowntail males that he wanted to include were blue and red. They were freaky looking and you guys would have loved them. I don't work with crowntails and would have brought them to my clubs' auction. Instead I took two females of my own breeding to the auction. They have nice new homes with two betta friends in rural New Jersey. One is living on a mountain-mansion with a saltwater aficionado who has started to own bettas. The other is living with an ex-Newark Detective. I bet she'll be well protected. When I told the Thai breeder I needed a plakat female rather than the ct's, he said "not too worry" and included two, they have thousands. The platinum female is a real treat since it's a color I wouldn't have bought on my own. Well now you have it all about my six new bettas!
