It was supposed to be a community tank...but when we went to look at fish to see what we wanted, my hubby fell in love with the frisky little guppies. It is amazing all the colors there are now! Right now there are 6 male and 3 female guppies, a small pleco, and Gary the snail in the tank, and he wants to add the same amount again of guppies. He is also setting up a 10 gal to cycle so that any pregnant girlies can go in it. There will also be a couple more plants added, as Gary ate every live plant we added and we only had the 2 fakes to add. And before anyone freaks we are going to watch the size of the pleco and already have an agreement that when he gets to big, the store will just swap for a smaller one.

very nice!!
you want your females gups to outnumber your males, or the stress of being 'overbread' can kill them.

Thank you. We are not sure what kind of snail he is. The petstore labeled him as a 'medium snail'. He was in a 5.5 with one of my bettas and it was obvious he wasn't happy so we moved him to the 35 as soon as it was cycled and he has been active and growing since. We thought at first he was a trapdoor snail, cause he has the door, but then we saw that he also has the little breathing tube thingy that he can extend out of the water like an apple snail, and his shell looks like a ramshorn. his shell is a dark yellow with brown stripes if that helps with identifing. And with all the growth he has had since we moved him, I would love to see what is considered a 'large snail; if he is only a 'medium snail'!

I think he's a Pomacea canaliculata...they are the voracious plant eating apple snail.
