Hey guys, I was a little bored so I checked out the fish store... I found a wicked nice female that I fell in love with. I put her in the divided tank and she's flaring like crazy...I have never seen a female flare before!

I keep trying to look under the belly for the white egg, but she keeps moving so fast... I found her in the female betta section of the store though lol.

Hmm ty for the picture ;D They should really fix those cups in that store LOL. What if I wanted 4 female bettas and got 4 plakats....oh what a disaster that would have been BTW he was $2.99, how much do plakats usually go for?

I think that Bettons is right bcroft it does look like a plakat, however in your defense females do flare and plakat's finnage looks somewhat similar to females.

It's ok as long as he's nice looking I don't care if its a female or a male He's like a mini version of spaz.

He seems very violent compared to my other bettas.... are plakats bred to fight more than the normal veils? He even flares at the bloodworms and pellets that I give him lol. What a cool fish though, I just love the small fins on him!

I have never kept plakats, so I am not really sure, But I would say it is normal. My betta used to flare at the pellets that I'd give him and then he would eat it.

I have a female crowntail that flares like crazy! she's a mean little thing too (currently in a community tank, and has killed 6 rummy nosed tetras, a scissortail Rasbora, 2 harlequin Rasboras ... she is moving to her own bowl! she bites at the other fish and they die the next day ... little bully! ) She is just young (about 4 months old) ... will she grow out of this aggression? How is your placat doing? Or has it turned out to be a female?

ahh, I would say that she is just an aggressive fish. of the ones I have had they either start docile or aggresive, or in the case of my Dante, start aggresive and get just plain mean! lol. I would suggest that she is a fish meant to be in a tank by herself.

I had this one yellow cichlid for years that was about 2.5" long and had a full-grown Pirahna attitude! It would attack any fish it came across without mercy until that fish was finless and near death. By far the meanest fish I've ever kept, but one of the coolest. He could actually wake me up from a sound sleep scrunching around in the gravel to dig himself a lion's den underneath the corner filter.
Some fish are just like that.

lol, what kind of fish did you keep a cichlid with? usually they are violent fish. they also like to dig up rocks because when they finally spawn, this is how they protect the babies.
