I was wondering how betta should be pronounced. I have heard that the more common way of saying it is bay-tuh but I thought the *correct* way of saying it is bet-uh. Sorry, this just bothers me lol.

I am trying to "teach" those around me about bettas, so i do try to pronounce their name correctly i find that calling them "bet-tuh fish" takes care of both correct pronunciation and also clarifies what it is you are discussing; "bet-tuhs" does indeed get me a "What are you talking about?" from many folk. It hasn't been hard for me, as I pronounce "beta" the other way but spelled as it should be, betta is bet-tuh to me.

I say it bet-uh, rhyming with the jetta (volkswagon). I think that is the proper way as it comes from the scientific name of betta splendens which is pronounced bet-uh. I also find that it is normally pronounced that way around here, at least by people who know more about them, and I get funny looks if I say it bay-tuh. Maybe its a regional thing.
