Well, I think I must be the least creative of us all. My two latest bettas are named 'fishy girl' and 'new fishy'. I couldn't think of names, and just started calling them that.

My Maurice is named thusly because he's got to be the gaudiest fish I've ever seen. I was thinking about naming him Carson, after the fashion person on Queer Eye for the Straight Guy, but after I saw how agressive he was, I needed something different. For a while he was John Pierre (flamboyant french) but then my father was singing a song to him in the bathroom (don't ask, my dad's just like that) and he couldn't think of anything else to rhyme with Pierre - so he switched tacks and started calling him Maurice. It stuck. I want to get him a buddy - or rather, rescue my friend's betta who's in an 8 oz lily vase right now - but that won't happen until she realizes how much she's neglecting her fish...

lol, sounds like my compromise with my parents! For two weeks, Apolo & Aragorn didn't have names. My dad kept telling me to name them Majestic & Trump but I said no. We went to the pet store on Saturday to get dog food and a zig zag eel. I had to look at the bettas of course, and I saw a really pretty one. His cup was about half full of water (all the other ones were full) and it was clear instead of being blue. He was still really active and was flaring at everyone in the cups by him. I just had to have him and my parents were both like no. I said they could name him Majestic and that changed their minds, lol.
Next time I go home, I'm getting a tank mate for Joey. If it's a male, I'm sure his name will be Trump.

I had two Bettas, but I just lost one yesterday to illness. Now I just have the one. Sushi was the name of the one that passed. Sushi is my favourite food for starters, and naturally seemed appropriate for a little fishy. My crowntail's name is Alexander, Alex for short. I named him that because of Alexander the Great, because crown=royal, regal.

Ok, I get tons of grief over my names...but here goes...I named my first fish (nonbetta) Orangina..(goldfish) - it was perfect, all bubbly like the drink..Anywaaay..poor Orangina died and I bought a betta, I couldn't think of a name and my roomates reminded that I ate about 1000 pomegranates ( the fruit) this fall and that since my betta was red and blue and look sorta purple, that would be a good name...Then i got addicted and have since bought 7 more bettas....five of those are names of fruits and berries ( coloring of course plays a huge part in what i name them!!!) Here goes...Pomegranate, Mulberry, Raspberry, Strawberry, Cherry, and Banana ( Raspberry and Strawberry are my little pink girls) The others are boys. I really wanted to name Banana, ( my newest addition, beauitful delta tail) "Blueberry-Banana, cause he is very pale yellow, with blue steaks, edges on his fins, and polka dots , but I thought that was a bit wordy. I did stray from the fruit theme a little, I have two girls named Lilac and Honeysuckle, who were named after my boyfriend and I had a conversation about our favorite flowers.. Ok, sorry this was so long, I just love to talk about my fishes, and my friends refuse to listen to me anymore!! Ha!

My betta (I've had him a day...) is named The Evil Emperor Ming, Ruler of all that is beneath water. He's known as Evil, The Emperor, His Highness, Your Majesty, Ming, and "The Beastie". He's named after the villain in Flash Gordon (people are already pushing me to find a yellow one for another tank to call Flash), and partially named that way because a friend of mine got a Goldfish and called him Aquafish (THE FISH THAT CAN BREATHE UNDER WATER!!), as in Aquaman the superhero. So CLEARLY he required an arch nemesis . Ming intends to take over the world as we know it, and there will be no salt water or dry land . -Flash

I don't know exactly how Moby got his name. He is a deep blue guy and I was trying to think of a color related name for him. I just started calling him Moby when I noticed he loved to eat. So I said he was like a little whale. Then Moby just stuck, he has been Moby for his 3 years and has not complained yet.

well, i have a 4 yr old step daughter, a 3 year old daughter and a (soon to be 1 yr old) son. So i decided to pick a theme. I wanted something that the kids could say, so i went with a cartoon move theme. Since there are so many charecters i can still find names that suit the personality. i have in this order Nemo- very adventurous and SD's favorite fish/movie Sebastion- hides out alot in his plant but then he gets going and he acts just like the crab on little mermaid. Doc- is a walmart save and he seems to be wise beyond his years.I have only had him 1-2 monthes but he acts like a little old man, he's always studying things around him Bashful- is a beuatiful light pastels and spent the first few days hiding if he thought i was watching him then we have kermit who was named for his green color. i wnted to name him after a dragon, but the only Dragon in cartoon form i could think of was Puff and me and DH thought that would be mean to name a male *Puff* he also is similar to kermit the frog, seems to constantly sit and sings "it's hard to be green" then ther is stir fry- this is hubby's fish and doesn't follow the theme, he is also green and hubby got him home from LFS and set his little bag on the stovetop while he brought in the rest of the grocery's i was horrified"you can't put a fish on the STOVE!!" i know it was just for a minute and the stove was off but geez, no wonder he stressed out. and thgat's how i name my fish. i set a theme and try and stick too it. Currently I have two Betta fish... I just bought them recently. I had one a few few years back that met a tragic death when my aunt got ahold of him and tossed him in a pond outside.... I live in Canada. RIP Kai. He was beautiful and multi-coloured and I called him Kai meaning willow tree in an ancient language (I can't remember exactly which one) We just rescued one of ours from Wal-mart and certain death.... instantly my husband decided to call him Jefferey and I agreed.... oddly enough it is a very appripriate name for him. I had been feeling jealous of the bond he seems to have with my husband I bought a baby betta and told him to stay away from him he is mine! I named him Haku after a character in the enchanting animated film Spirited Away. I loved watching the character and I adore the fish and at midnight the other night it came to me after a short lived struggle.

Admittedly, our betta names are "all over the board," (no pun intended). However, all names are either conceived, or must at least be approved by, my 8-yr. old daughter.

I have six bettas and my gf has two. My bettas are named Ravenous, Torch, Torpedo, Onslaught, Rags, and Metallic. I had a seventh named Bullet (my first male betta i got a few years ago) but i had to give him away . He had a dark blue and red/purple body. Ravenous is always hungry and going to the top to look at me when i pass by his tank and likes to play and follow your finger. He has a dark blue and red/purple body like Bullet which is why i got him second and i've had him for 2 years now. Torch has the colors of fire with a bright orange body with red spots and bright red fins and white tips on his fins. Torpedo has a bronze color like an old torpedo and she tucks her fins in and flies at the other females when shes mad plus the fact shes stealthy. Onslaught is blue with blood red fins and is named for her habbit or flipping out and taking on all the other females at once and just flaring up at everything in site. Rags is blue with blood red fins also but is named for her raggidy fins. Metallic is named for her teal tint that looks just like a metallic shine. My Girlfriend's two male bettas are named Acid Rain and King Arthur. Acid Rain is blue with blood red fins and is just name for his blue rain color and the red is blood shed from the acid ;D. King Arthur is named for his shiny armor-like body that is bright red and pearl white tipped fins. Torch, Torpedo and King Arthur are kind of rare colors i have neevr seen before in bettas. All of their names were made to describe their character or colors and they fit them very well .
