for putting Lost Star's picture on the new HB homepage. When you "try" to breed bettas and your friends breed bettas there's always a new betta and with it new hope. Sometimes you forget about the ones that are left behind.
Lost Star was won on an Aquabid Auction a year ago. He and his sib sister traveled from Thailand to Hawaii where the transhipper fed and acclimated them. Since it was Hawaii there were less options to ship to NY. The transhipper made the mistake of using UPS and since it was May; did not include a heat pack. I tracked them online. They were on the UPS truck from 7 am until 5 pm in unusually cold May weather. The bags were at 55 degrees when I opened the package. I warmed them against body before bringing them up to proper temperature.
To my surprise both fish were active, hungry and seemed unaffected by the cold. I settled them in an they ate everything I gave them. Several weeks later the male became ill and nothing I did would put off his inevitable decline.
The Thai breeder had no concept of the effects of 55 degree water on a betta. Still he replaced the male with Big Star (the royal bf next to my s/n)
Lost Star was everything I ever wanted in a male butterfly. A 180-degree halfmoon with nice ray branching, a perfect royal blue bf pattern, edged in white. (Many blue bf's have clear edges and white is more desirable) Great looks, a powerful body and a nice trusting personality to boot.
I usually take some time to name my bettas. When I lost this male he didn't have a name. He was given his name posthumously...Lost Star the perfect name for the perfect betta.
Rachel, I tried to put a pic of LS in my post but you know that's not my forte. Would you post his pic here so people could see him?
