i feed mostly live bloodworms (for 48 total bettas about 4 ounces a week) i also give frozen bloodworms once a day and mix that with the frozen mosqutio larva at a ratio of 6 cubes of frozen bloodworms to 3 cubes of larva ... i have just started useing the larva and the guys and gals really suck them down .... i also feed some mixed flake and pellet foods tho they dont really care for that as much as the live or frozen ... i am aslo in the process of makeing my own food useing beef heart and salmon eggs but havent started them on this yet .... I feed pellets in the morning (Hikari Betta Bio-Gold, Cichlid Bio-Gold, New Life Spectrum, or OSI Tropical pellets) than at night I feed either frozen mosquitoe larvae, frozen bloodworms, frozen brine shrimp, or freeze dried daphnia. I also occasionally feed live brine shrimp, fruit flies, or white worms.

Boys regularly get Hiarki Bio-Gold, Girls regularly get HBH Betta Bites. They each get the other now and then, though. Also included in their feeding routines are Marineland Bio Blend betta pellets, Freeze Dried Bloodworms, Freeze Dried Daphnia, and Freeze Dried shrimp. Yum yum Amber

Hikari Bio Gold for all but one guy & one gal, who are very picky & only nibble at Tetra Betta Min.

Mine get Nutrafin Max flake in the morning (not very commonly used, but really boosts color!). Flake food tends to let them eat more volume, but get less actual food then pellets, so it's good for the hogs in the family. Yes, Beaker, I mean you! What is this picky fish of which you speak, BettaBeGood? Wanna trade? lol
Evenings I feed BioGold, with maybe some of my frog's bloodworms once in a blue moon.
I'm really interested to learn more about Mickey's food ideas! Sounds a bit dear for my own personal use, but still fascinating!

MrsSmitty, My picky eaters are Albus, who at one time was eating BioGold - but one day, he just started spitting it back out (but not acting sick or anyting). He would even go after the same piece a few times, blow it back out, & then ignore it altogether. I tried the BettaMin, because it's smaller & he eats it, but not as enthusiastically. Betty just turns her nose up at everything. She eats BettaMin, although, not much of it. Their individual eating habits are so funny! I have three "polite" eaters, many who "dance for their meals," a couple of jumpers, some who attack their pellets like it's live prey, etc... Any of them would "nip the hand that feeds them," if I gave them the chance...

mine get mostly betta bites and bio-gold, but they also eat freeze-dried bloodworms once a week or so, and i just tried live brine shrimp tonight...they had so much fun chasing the little guys around and munching on them!
wedge refused to eat bio-gold for a while, or would spit them out right away. then he finally came around, and gobbles them up.
i'm considering freeze-dried tubifex worms...i have a little container of them, but haven't fed them, but i haven't been able to find out if they carry parasites.

Hey Amber,
Why do the boys and girls get separate types of food?
My two have been eating Hikari Betta Bio Gold for breakfast and HBH Betta Bites for dinner. I'd like to try some of the stuff that Megan reccommended also, in the other threat about color enhancing food.

i have wardleys betta pellets, and betta bio gold for my boys...Squishy gets alternately one or the other when i give him pellets, but Pudge is too small to eat the wardley's pellets. until recently, i even had to crush the bio gold for him to be able to eat it.
i also have (all freeze dried) bloodworms, brine shrimp, and daphnia for them. they get something freezedried once a day or once every other day, alternating foods. i hesitate to feed them live or frozen food, because of the possible parasites. i've thought about raising mosquito larvae for them, but with the recent coverage in the news about mosquito borne illnesses, im afraid to risk making both my fishies and myself sick by encouraging mosquito breeding.

Jedicat, Out of all the worms, tubifex can carry the most parasites. They probably wouldn't carry parasites if they are freeze dried, the freeze drying process kills most of the bacteria and parasites on them, but if you want to be really careful I would suggest staying away from them. You could try freeze dried daphnia or brine shrimp instead. Be careful not to overfeed with the brine shrimp, as it can cause bloating very easily.

I'm lucky that my three boys like the Hikari bio-gold pellets. They get those twice a day, and every other day each gets one freeze dried bloodworm. They take these from our fingers. My son's betta jumps out of the water to attack his treat. Tomorrow I'm going to try the frozen brine shrimp that's left over from our african dwarf frogs that are no longer with us. Edited: Okay, so I tried the frozen brine shrimp, and all three HATED them... I want to give them more of an variety in their diet, so i guess I'll try frozen bloodworms or something....I hope I don't have to go to LIVE food.

I tried feeding them flakes at first, but they would barely touch them. I feed them betta pellets now and they really seem to like those.
